What it is, and where it comes from
Barrel n.7 is born from a separate selection of the best Sangiovese grapes, kept apart in a limited mass of fifteen hectoliters. Fifteen hectoliters means just under two thousand bottles: it is the act of someone who, having reached the end of the selection, decides that that small amount should not be mixed with the rest.
It is one of two labels that best tell how this winery thinks — the other is Nero in Bianco, Sangiovese vinified in white. The house method applies: manual harvest, selection of grapes in the field, minimal intervention. It is released in a wooden box.

Who makes it, and where
Fattoria Uccelliera, in Crespina Lorenzana.
Made on the Pisan hills.
Two hundred and forty hectares between Crespina Lorenzana and Fauglia, twenty-one of them vineyard and olive grove.
“Uccelliera” is a medieval place name: it marked the hill where an old bird-catching stand once stood, a set-up for taking migrating birds. Today that same piece of hill does the opposite, and the arable land is farmed with the wildlife that passes through in mind.
