Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

A carved rope moulding runs around the edge of the top, like a twisted cord, and beneath the top run the four side bands, with the glass resting on them. The legs are fluted and tapered, with a block foot.

One hundred and seventeen by sixty-seven, forty-six high. The rope moulding is carved in the round and must keep the same pitch all the way around the perimeter: at the corners the rhythm is worked out beforehand, because a cord that breaks off shows. The gold decapé leaves the white in the hollows and the gold on the reliefs, which here means precisely on the braid.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding.
