Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

A single door, two meters four tall, on a body that takes up sixty-five centimeters along each side of the corner. On the door the painted decoration draws an elongated panel with a flower at the center, all of it vertical: it is there to make the piece read as a column, not as a wardrobe squeezed into a corner.

Inside there is one shelf and four coat knobs, which is the fitting-out of an entrance-hall cupboard: not shelves for boxes, but the place to hang what you take off on the way in. A corner piece is built on a triangle, and if the corner of the room is not exact — and it almost never is — the difference is made up in the workshop, before the finish goes on.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
