Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

Sixty-five centimeters across, and the top is painted: a ring of red and ocher scrolls running along the edge and leaving the center empty. On a round top a decoration has neither beginning nor end, and whoever paints it has to close the circle exactly where it was opened, at the same pace as the first leaf.

Fifty-four centimeters high: it stands beside an armchair, not in front of a sofa. The ivory ground is the base on which the two colors read without getting too warm — on a white ground the red would jump out, on a dark one it would go dead.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
