The piece

A low, long table, with the glass top inside the frame and the band decorated all around. The legs are short, tapered and capped at the top: they hold the piece at forty-six centimeters, the height of the seat of a sofa.

One hundred and seventeen by sixty-seven in the long version, sixty-seven by sixty-seven in the square one: they are the same piece cut in two proportions, and the decoration of the band has to be redrawn for each, because on a short side the same motif would be cramped. The silver leaf under the mecca stays warm rather than cold, and in a room with a fireplace that is the difference you see.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
