Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

There is not a straight side: the profile draws in at the flanks, widens at the bottom and rises at the top into a carved cresting. The mirror inside follows the same outline, and that is the point — curved glass has to be cut to the drawing of the frame, not the other way round, and that is where a shaped mirror costs.

The white is the base, the mocha comes afterwards and stays only in the hollows and under the raised parts: two colors, but the second shows only where it is needed to make shadow. One hundred and thirty-five centimeters wide by one meter ten high, which is the right size above a bathroom unit or a console.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
