The piece

A wide rectangular frame, with sharp edges and a decorated band running between two plain hollows. The ground is antique white; the mecca-glazed silver leaf sits only inside the decoration, and is there to give it depth without changing the color of the piece.

Ninety-nine centimeters wide by seventy-nine high — horizontal, and as wide as a basin. It is the mirror the workshop pairs with the bathroom unit 515, and the antique white is the same lacquer: two pieces made together age the same way, two pieces made years apart do not.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
