Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

Ninety-five centimeters of top and a single drawer in the apron: a bedroom desk, the kind that goes under a window and not in a study. The legs are saber legs opening outwards, and the chair 950 repeats the same curve in its back.

Seventy-seven high, fifty deep. A top this narrow forces you to get one thing right: the apron has to stay slim, because every centimeter that hangs below the top is a centimeter the legs of whoever is writing do not have. The chair reaches ninety-one, and the back rises fourteen centimeters above the top: from outside it is the chair you see, not the desk.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
