The piece

It is not a piece of furniture, it is a wall: hanging units, open shelves and a central compartment for the television, all inside white frames edged in silver. Between one element and the next the wall stays visible, and the composition is drawn out for the wall it has to occupy.

The company states fine woods and non-toxic varnishes, which on a hanging unit mean two separate things: the wood because a loaded wall unit works on its fixings for years, the varnish because a wall system stands in the living room, and it is the largest painted surface in the house.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
