Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

The body is bombé on three sides and stands on four tall, slender legs. The ground is antiqued gold, and painted over it are flowering vines that follow the curve of the drawers: where the wood recedes the branch draws in, where it projects it opens out. A decoration designed flat and then transferred onto the curve distorts, so it is painted directly onto the finished piece.

One hundred and five by fifty-three, eighty-five high. The tall legs leave the floor clear beneath the piece, which in a bathroom means being able to wash it without moving anything; and they are also the point that carries the whole weight of the marble, so they are jointed into the body and not screwed on underneath.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
