Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

There is no decoration on the front: there is a painting. A lake, a boat, a shore with trees and hills behind, painted by hand across the whole width of the piece and running on over the door join. The base and the foot are dark and close the scene at the bottom the way a frame would.

A painting that crosses two doors means they have to be worked side by side and then never touched again: if one shifts two millimeters during assembly, the horizon breaks and no retouching will put it back together. A hundred and ten by fifty-two, eighty-five high, and the top is Sahara marble.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
