Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

Three drawers on a bombé front, and the ground is a muted blue tending towards gray. Over it run hand-painted vines and flowers, small, scattered over the sides as well: the piece has no main face, it is looked at from an angle too. The legs are tall and end in a point, lifting the body some ten centimeters off the ground.

One hundred and five by fifty-three, eighty-five high. Antica Firenze is not a color but a way of finishing: natural colors sealed with wax, matt, which send no light back. In a bathroom it is a choice you pay for in maintenance and gain on in looks — a wax is gone over again, a chipped varnish has to come off entirely.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
