Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

The three doors are not wood: they are three rock-worked mirrors, gold and white, in a vintage ivory frame. The surface is broken into irregular veining, and each door sends the light back in a different direction — face on you do not see the room reflected, you see movement.

A worked mirror never repeats the same: the veining comes from the way the surface is attacked, and three doors side by side have to have the same rhythm without being identical. Two meters and one wide by one meter six high, sixty deep, and above it mirror 1637 in the same finish.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
