Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

It does not stand on the floor on four legs: it fixes to the wall and comes down in a single volute, which reaches almost to the floor and ends in a curl. Above, a shaped top with a single drawer, fifty-three centimeters off the ground.

Sixty wide by thirty deep. A cantilevered piece puts everything onto the wall, and the wall behind a bed is not always solid: where it is not, it has to be prepared first, because the volute that touches the floor carries little and is there mainly to close the shape. The decapè leaves the gold on the edges of the volute, where the eye follows the curve.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
