Square white gold earrings with a Princess-cut diamond and brilliant-cut diamond halo
One square inside another: the Princess at the center, fifty-two points of carat in all.

Two squares, one inside the other. At the center a Princess-cut diamond, square as well, held in a setting that takes it on its four sides; around it runs a frame of small brilliants, set one by one, repeating the same shape on a larger scale. Behind is the post: they are worn resting on the lobe, without hanging.
Four grams sixty of eighteen-carat white gold for the two earrings. The Princess at the center comes to twenty-five points of carat, the surround to twenty-seven: fifty-two in all, and more than half the weight is in the small stones.

How it is made

- Princess cut
- A square cut with the facets of a brilliant. It came about in the Seventies to waste less rough: an octahedron yields far more of it than a round does, where the corners end up as dust. The weak point is the corners, which are left sharp: that is where a knock chips the stone, and for that reason the setting takes it on the four sides.
- Brilliant cut
- Fifty-seven facets calculated so that the light entering from above comes back out on the same side. It is the cut that makes a diamond sparkle, and the reason a badly cut diamond stays dull.
I don't look at what others are doing: I would rather create in my own style. That is what makes our jewelry recognizable.

Every piece leaves the bench made to order: sizes and details are agreed before the work begins.
The goldsmith's workshop is also the place where made-to-measure jewellery is created and family pieces are restored: if you have an idea, or something you want brought back to how it was, that is where it starts.
