Traversine Solitaire Ring in White Gold with Natural Yellow Diamond

Forty-nine points of natural yellow diamond, held tight between two cross bars.

At the center a yellow diamond, round, brilliant-cut. It is not held by the points of a setting: two white gold cross bars grip it, one on each side, rising from the band and taking it at the girdle. Above and below, the stone is left free, and the light passes through it. Two small white diamonds run along the face of each cross bar.

Forty-nine points of a carat at the center, clarity VVS2; four side diamonds, six points in all, color F. Five grams and eighty of eighteen-carat white gold. The yellow of that stone is nitrogen that entered the lattice while it was growing: in colorless diamonds the same impurity is the flaw that brings the color grade down, here it is the reason the stone is at the center.

How it is made

Brilliant cut
Fifty-seven facets calculated so that the light entering from above comes back out the same way. It is the cut that makes a diamond sparkle, and the reason a badly cut diamond stays dead.
Natural yellow diamond
The yellow of a diamond is not added: it is nitrogen, which entered the carbon lattice in place of a few atoms while the stone was growing. The nitrogen absorbs the blue part of the light and lets the rest out, and what comes out looks yellow. On the scale for colorless diamonds the same impurity, in a minimal dose, is the flaw that brings the stone down a grade; beyond a certain intensity it stops being a flaw, and the diamond is graded for the color it has instead of for the color it lacks.

I don't look at what others are doing: I would rather create in my own style. That is what makes our jewelry recognizable.
