This beer

What it is, and what is in it

Nine degrees, ebony color. It is the brewery's historical imperial stout, and it sits on the Year Round shelf: structured beers, those that mature before release.

The recipe includes oats, sugar, and vanilla alongside barley malt. The oats provide body, the vanilla is added and detectable on the nose along with toasted notes and tobacco. In the mouth, the toasted notes return soft, and the finish is slightly bitter, like coffee.

Third place at Birra dell'Anno in 2014, and three times "Great Beer" in the Slow Food Guide to Italian Beers. The brewery designates it as multi-seasonal: it is not available all year round.

How it is made
Production, maturation, and packaging take place at the facility on via Cimarosa, in Livorno, where the brewery also hosts guided tours and tastings. The brewery presents itself as craft: under Italian law, the term mandates a non-pasteurized and non-microfiltered beer, produced by an independent brewery. The catalog is divided into three declared categories - Core Range, Year Round, The Fun Part - depending on whether the beer is always available, matures for a long time, or is a one-time release.
