This beer

What it is, and what is in it

Ten and a half degrees, dark amber with ruby reflections. The name comes from Livorno's iconic fortification.

It is a long-aged barley wine: first in steel - the brewery specifies it does not go into barrels - and then in the bottle. This aging process gives it oxidative notes, which are typically corrected in dessert wines. On the nose, caramel, figs, and dates, with a liquorice note. In the mouth, the body is full and soft, and the alcohol presents itself like in a passito.

First place at Birra dell'Anno in 2021 and three first places at the European Beer Stars. The brewery suggests letting it warm up a little in the glass.

How it is made
Production, maturation, and packaging take place at the facility on via Cimarosa, in Livorno, where the brewery also hosts guided tours and tastings. The brewery presents itself as craft: under Italian law, the term mandates a non-pasteurized and non-microfiltered beer, produced by an independent brewery. The catalog is divided into three declared categories - Core Range, Year Round, The Fun Part - depending on whether the beer is always available, matures for a long time, or is a one-time release.
