Collection Creazioni in Argento·Anello·Nest setting on an open shank
Twelve millimeters by nine of blue topaz, held around the edge by eight claws: once a topaz is in its seat, you cannot close a bezel over it.
Drawn and built by hand at the bench, in Tosi.
The blue is cold and clean, the same tone from one end of the stone to the other, with no heavier or lighter areas. It is also the clearest of the gems that dress this setting: you look right into it, and when the hand moves the facets at the edge send back white flashes that for an instant uncover the color. The oval has a wide table at the top, and the color lives in the depth beneath it: the gem reads bluer seen from the side than seen flat. Eight claws take it around the edge and leave it free, raised above the silver cup.
Twelve millimeters by nine. The silver is at nine hundred and twenty-five thousandths and weighs nine grams and forty. Topaz is harder than the quartzes — the eighth degree against the seventh — but hardness is not toughness: it cleaves along a clean plane parallel to the base, and a knock given the wrong way does not chip a corner off it, it opens it in two. That is why here it sits on claws that take it at the sides rather than inside a bezel pushed over. The blue of topazes in jewelry almost always comes from a treatment on colorless rough: it is stable, it does not fade, and it is a declared and current practice in the gem trade. The carat weight is not stated by the company, and we do not add it.

The words of the trade, one by one, explained to those who do not know them.
I don't look at what others are doing: I would rather create in my own style. That is what makes our jewelry recognizable.
Fabio Gori — Anna Gioielli, Tosi
The shank of this ring stays open: the two ends overlap without being soldered, and light finger pressure opens it out or closes it up. It fits more than one size, and different fingers.
The goldsmith's workshop is also the place where made-to-measure jewellery is created and family pieces are restored: if you have an idea, or something you want brought back to how it was, that is where it starts.
A goldsmith's workshop in Tosi, on the slopes of the Pratomagno: Anna opened it in 1988, her sons Fabio and Francesco carry it on. Piercing, repoussé, chasing and burin engraving — the Florentine school, with the workshop in full view of the shop.
