Where it comes from
Amordamaro doesn't try to make amends for its bitterness; it puts it front and center, right in its name. It's served at the end of a meal, after Vin Santo or in its place.
The recipe is a family one. In the very early 1900s, one of their ancestors prepared an elixir to give as Christmas gifts to relatives and friends: it's Nonna Isola's recipe, now back in production.
Same bitter, large bottle. Seventy centiliters is the size for those who have already tried it and decided it belongs in their home.

Who makes it, and where
Fattoria Uccelliera, in Crespina Lorenzana.
Made on the Pisan hills.
Two hundred and forty hectares between Crespina Lorenzana and Fauglia, twenty-one of them vineyard and olive grove.
“Uccelliera” is a medieval place name: it marked the hill where an old bird-catching stand once stood, a set-up for taking migrating birds. Today that same piece of hill does the opposite, and the arable land is farmed with the wildlife that passes through in mind.
