Collection Silver Creations·Necklace
Fifty-one centimeters of Tahitian pearls, and between one pearl and the next a silver flower.
Drawn and built by hand at the bench, in Tosi.
A single strand of Tahitian pearls, gray so dark that at first glance they look black; turned in the light the gray opens onto green and aubergine, and no one of them is exactly the color of the one beside it. They are round and run one after another, and between each pair sits a silver flower with short petals, which keeps them apart and stops them knocking together. The clasp is a hook made of two silver leaves, veined in relief, that take hold of one another and are worn on show, at the side, instead of hiding behind the nape. Each of the two leaves closes like a calyx around the end pearl of the strand.
Fifty-one centimeters in all, and the pearls measure between ten and eleven millimeters across: they are chosen one at a time and set in line, which is why the size is given as a range and not as a single number. Twelve grams seventy of 925 silver, counting the spacers and the clasp. The gray is the color the nacre has as it comes out of the Tahitian oyster, the black-lipped Pinctada margaritifera, without any treatment. And it is the soft part of the piece — it sits around the third degree of hardness, it scratches with a fingernail and it dissolves in acids — so the necklace goes on last, after the perfume, and is put away dry. The thread that carries the pearls is the part that ages first: it should be restrung before it gives, not after.

The words of the trade, one by one, explained to those who do not know them.
I don't look at what others are doing: I would rather create in my own style. That is what makes our jewelry recognizable.
Fabio Gori — Anna Gioielli, Tosi
Every piece leaves the bench made to order: sizes and details are agreed before the work begins.
The goldsmith's workshop is also the place where made-to-measure jewellery is created and family pieces are restored: if you have an idea, or something you want brought back to how it was, that is where it starts.
A goldsmith's workshop in Tosi, on the slopes of the Pratomagno: Anna opened it in 1988, her sons Fabio and Francesco carry it on. Piercing, repoussé, chasing and burin engraving — the Florentine school, with the workshop in full view of the shop.
