Collection Creazioni in Argento·Anello·Nest setting on an open shank
An amethyst of twelve millimeters by nine, the purple shifting from deep to lilac from one end of the stone to the other.
Drawn and built by hand at the bench, in Tosi.
The purple is not spread evenly over the whole stone: towards one end it is deep, almost blue, and towards the other it thins into a gray lilac that lets the light through. It is the way amethyst grows, in bands, and whoever cut it oriented it so that the most intense part falls where the eye arrives first. The oval has a large flat table and a single crown of facets around it: the flashes start from there, while at the center the color stays still and is looked at in depth rather than on the surface. The gem is raised on eight claws above the silver cup, and does not touch it.
Twelve millimeters by nine. The silver is at nine hundred and twenty-five thousandths and weighs nine grams forty. Amethyst is purple quartz: the same mineral species as rock crystal and yellow citrine, all that changes is the iron it holds and what happened to it underground. At the seventh degree of hardness it is worn every day without thinking about scratches, but the purple is the fragile part: strong, continuous light fades it, and heat wipes it out — an amethyst heated enough turns yellow, and that is where most of the citrine on the market comes from. So out of direct sun and away from any flame, repairs included. The carat weight is not stated by the company, and we do not add it.

The words of the trade, one by one, explained to those who do not know them.
I don't look at what others are doing: I would rather create in my own style. That is what makes our jewelry recognizable.

The shank of this ring stays open: the two ends overlap without solder, and light finger pressure widens or narrows it. It fits several sizes, and different fingers.
The goldsmith's workshop is also the place where made-to-measure jewellery is created and family pieces are restored: if you have an idea, or something you want brought back to how it was, that is where it starts.
A goldsmith's workshop in Tosi, on the slopes of the Pratomagno: Anna opened it in 1988, her sons Fabio and Francesco carry it on. Piercing, repoussé, chasing and burin engraving — the Florentine school, with the workshop in full view of the shop.
