Collection Marte·Pendente
Thirteen millimeters and six of baroque pearl under seven grams and ten of pierced silver, and a cabochon tourmaline on the front.
Drawn and built by hand at the bench, in Tosi.
The pearl is the large part: a white baroque with an irregular outline, a low hump on one side and the surface run through by wide waves, the ones mother-of-pearl leaves as it settles in layers. The white does not stay still — as the light turns, pink, green and blue pass across it. Above it takes a silver cap that is not a sheet: it is a weave of thin branches, pierced and opened into voids that are not alike, and each branch runs down the shoulder of the pearl and ends in a small bead. From the cap a longer branch runs down the front and widens at the bottom into a pierced collar with the same craters: inside it, held by six claws finished as small beads, sits the tourmaline, a raspberry pink cabochon, domed and without facets — the light does not sparkle on it, it goes in, passes through the thickness and comes back up carrying the color with it. The silver is oxidized in the recesses and re-polished only on the raised work, as in all the Marte pieces: the design comes forward by contrast. At the top the bail is of the same pierced silver, and through it runs a burgundy silk cord.
The pendant measures twenty-eight millimeters by fourteen, and the pearl measures thirteen and six across: the width is almost all pearl, the silver sits above it and on the front, not beside it. Seven grams and ten of silver at nine hundred and twenty-five thousandths, and not a gram of gold. Of the tourmaline the company declares that it is natural and gives no carat weight, and we do not add the carats in their place. The shape of the pearl was not chosen from a catalog: it is what the mollusc laid down layer upon layer, and the cap was built onto this one and no other, so the piece cannot be made again the same. Mother-of-pearl, though, is soft: it scratches with a fingernail and dissolves in acids, so the pendant goes on last, after the perfume, and is put away dry. The burgundy silk cord with silver ends that appears in the photographs is forty-eight and a half centimeters long.
Weights and carats as the workshop declares them.

The words of the trade, one by one, explained to those who do not know them.
I don't look at what others are doing: I would rather create in my own style. That is what makes our jewelry recognizable.
Fabio Gori — Anna Gioielli, Tosi
Every piece leaves the bench made to order: sizes and details are agreed before the work begins.
The goldsmith's workshop is also the place where made-to-measure jewellery is created and family pieces are restored: if you have an idea, or something you want brought back to how it was, that is where it starts.
A goldsmith's workshop in Tosi, on the slopes of the Pratomagno: Anna opened it in 1988, her sons Fabio and Francesco carry it on. Piercing, repoussé, chasing and burin engraving — the Florentine school, with the workshop in full view of the shop.
