Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

Three meters long by one wide. The top is gilded and on it are painted bunches of flowers: a large one at the center, two smaller ones at the ends, inside a band that follows the perimeter. Over the painting goes the glass, which is the only way to use a painted top every day.

A three-meter table does not stand on four legs at the corners: the base is continuous, carved, with the feet opening outwards to take the two ends and the center. Painting on gold means working on a ground that reflects: the color changes as you lay it, and what looks right under the lamp has to be looked at again in daylight.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
