Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

One meter eighty-six across the front, with two paneled doors below and a row of drawers above, separated by a projecting molding. The decoration in antiqued silver leaf sits inside the panels and on the escutcheons, and the rest stays ivory.

One meter fifteen high is more than an ordinary sideboard: the top comes above the elbow, and the piece is looked at close up rather than from above. That is why the decoration is on the doors and not on the top — at this height the top is barely seen. Fifty-four centimeters deep, which is what a serving dish needs.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
