Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

Ninety-five centimeters across: a large round, with the glass top inside an ivory frame and the hand-painted apron running all the way round. The legs are red, tapered and fluted, with the capital and the foot in gold.

On a curved apron the decoration has neither a beginning nor an end: whoever paints it has to close the circuit at the same rhythm they had at the first leaf, and over three meters of circumference the error accumulates. It is made in two heights, fifty-four and forty-four, and it comes apart — which on a ninety-five top is what lets it get through a door.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
