Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

One meter eighty by one meter ten, and the top is a single sheet of glass: sitting down you can see the structure underneath, the apron and the joint of the legs. It is a choice that does not forgive, because the part that is usually hidden is on show here the whole time, and has to be finished as if it were a front.

Eighty centimeters high — the fixed measure of a dining table, the one that does not change because the chair decides it. The antique white is a lacquering pulled back with glazes, and the silver details sit on the edges and the capitals, where the light arrives first.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
