Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

The band is ribbed: parallel grooves running around the whole perimeter, close together and all the same depth. There is no other decoration, and under the glass top the ribbing is the first thing you see. A single line deeper than the others takes a different shadow, and across a front of one hundred and seventeen centimeters that shadow gets counted.

Two formats, both forty-six high. The mecca over the silver leaf fills the grooves and leaves the ridges pale: it is the same reason ribbing shows better against the light than in full light, and here the finish does the work of the light.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
