The piece

The headboard is tall and solid, entirely capitonné in small close diamonds, and it sits inside a wooden frame that rises at the top into a shaped profile. Small diamonds want many more buttons than large ones, and every button pulls four folds that have to reach the same depth: one sunk half a centimeter further is enough to make the grid look crooked.

The frame is white rag-distressed in mother-of-pearl with silver leaf details, and it stays narrow: it is there to close the padding, not to be looked at. The bed base is chosen — decorated wood or a padded storage base — and the choice changes the height of the finished bed off the ground.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The make-up
The padding is chosen. The bed base can be either decorated wood or a padded storage base. The company does not declare the dimensions. The bedside tables and the other furniture shown in the images are not included.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
