Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

A light structure and a glass top: four fluted legs tapering to a small foot, a low hand-painted apron, and nothing else. A table that weighs little to the eye, and in a room that is already full that is what is needed.

The three sizes — sixty-five square, ninety-five by fifty-five, one hundred and fifteen by sixty-five — all stand at forty-six high, which is the level of an armrest. The fluting on the legs is the slow part: it is done one face at a time, straight, and on a tapered leg the flutes are not parallel to one another but converge, so they have to be set out beforehand and not by eye.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
