Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

The unit is bowed at the front and stands on four tall feet: the light passes underneath, and that is why in a small bathroom it does not read as a block. The top is Botticino fiorito marble, the kind with dark veins running in clouds; the basin is set into it, and the taps come with the unit.

The antique white is a lacquer aged by hand, and the mecca-glazed silver decoration goes over it: silver laid on and then oxidized on purpose, so that it stays matt instead of reflecting. In a bathroom that is a practical choice as much as an aesthetic one — polished silver shows every drop, mecca-glazed silver does not. The unit comes with the oval mirror 1587, eighty by a hundred centimeters, and the two wall lights 3004.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
