Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

The front is bowed and the sides draw in: from whichever side you look at it there is not one straight surface. On the two doors the mecca-silver decoration draws a festoon that opens at the center and falls away at the sides, and below the piece stands on four short curved legs.

A bowed front in a bathroom means the marble top above has to be cut to the same curve, not to a rectangle: marble is worked once only and does not stretch. One hundred and thirty-nine centimeters is enough for two basins, and it is the reason the piece is more than a meter thirty wide instead of stopping at one.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
