Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

One meter fifty of headboard from the floor: an upholstered wall, quilted in wide diamonds and closed by an oxidized silver edging. At this height the headboard is no longer a finishing touch to the bed, it is the back wall of the room, and the room is organized from there.

One hundred and ninety wide by two fifteen long. Wide quilting is harder than close quilting: the folds between one stitch and the next are long, and if the padding is not spread evenly the fabric sags in the middle. The fabric is chosen, and the bed frame can be in upholstered wood or a storage base.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
