Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

The headboard is one meter sixty tall and has a shaped profile: it rises in waves, closes at the top with a carved crest and falls away at the sides. The padding is in two-tone fabric, with the diamond quilting playing across the two tones instead of one.

Two colors on the same quilting means the cuts have to be worked out in advance: every diamond changes fabric, and the pattern has to close on the curves of the profile without a half diamond cut at random showing. Two meters five by two meters five, and at the foot of the bed the bench 942 with storage, one hundred and six long.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
