Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

The headboard is divided into upholstered vertical channels, all of the same width, closed inside a frame that runs round three sides. Along the frame runs the detail in bronze mirror: a single line, which takes the light of the bedside lamps and gives it back along the whole edge.

The channels are the part that does not forgive: each pad has to be filled with the same amount of material, because a channel fuller than its neighbors can be seen from anywhere in the room and cannot be corrected after the stitching. The fabric is chosen, and the bed surround can be in upholstered wood or a storage base.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
