Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

Long lilies are painted on the drawers, in pale umber over a white mother-of-pearl sponged ground: the stems cross the joins and pass from one drawer to the next, so the front reads as a single surface until it is opened. A decoration made this way is painted with the piece closed and will not allow a drawer to go back in the wrong place.

A hundred and twenty-five wide by a meter ten high for the chest, sixty-one by sixty-three for the bedside table. The Swarovski are on the handles, which is the part touched every day: they are held in a metal seat and not glued onto the lacquer, because on lacquer they would not hold.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
