Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

Three drawers on a bowed front, the shaped top overhanging and short legs splaying outwards. On the light ground each drawer carries a painted bunch, and beneath the top runs a band carved with leaves that widens at the center.

Chest, bedside table and mirror come in the same polychrome finish, and that is the most delicate part: three pieces of different size have to share the same ground tone, and a hand-painted ground changes with the surface it has to cover. They are made together, not months apart. The chest is a hundred and thirty-two long, the bedside table fifty-six.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
