Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

The body is white and smooth, and a frame of bronze mirror runs all the way round it: above, below and on the sides. The piece looks as if it were set inside a frame that reflects the floor and the wall, and because of that it almost disappears from the side.

Mirror on an edge is the most fragile thing you can put on a piece of furniture: it is cut to size once, beveled, and then never touched again, because a knock on a mirrored corner cannot be repaired — it is replaced. The dark, tapered feet lift the body off the floor and let the reflection be seen from underneath as well.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
