Designed, built and finished inside the workshop, in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa.

The piece

Over the brushed white ground passes a mother-of-pearl sponging, and over it are painted two flowering stems that rise from the right and from the left almost to the middle of the door. Inside the corollas sit the Swarovski: small, few, and they are the only thing that moves when you shift in front of the piece.

The sponging is applied with a pad and not a brush, and on a front of two meters eighty the hand has to stay the same from the first corner to the last: a glaze cannot be corrected cold, it is taken off or added to while it is fresh. Two meters sixty high, sixty-eight deep.

How it is made

The finish is the craft: lacquer and gold leaf are the two steps almost everyone subcontracts, and here they stay in house.

The workshop

L'ARTES

An art furniture workshop in Sambuca, founded in Firenze, in San Frediano, in 1968 by two young artisans trained by the masters of woodcarving. The whole cycle stays inside: the drawing, the unfinished piece, the lacquering, the decoration and the hand gilding. Three lines — Classico, Contemporary and Antica Firenze — and every piece built to the measurements of whoever orders it.
