Wings machine-embroidered onto tulle, with the thread changing direction at every block of colour: close up you can see the veining, from a distance you see only the colour fading into itself. The body and antennae are gilt metal, applied over the embroidery.
There are two in the photograph: one green and silver, with dark markings on the upper wings; one purple and grey, with a flash of pale blue at the base of the wings.
They are worn on a lapel, on a bag, or pinned to the fold of a scarf.

Antonella Dondoli and her daughter Cristina Ulivi have been making handmade costume jewelry for more than fifteen years: hardstone, pearls, crystals, Murano glass and resin. The business, L'Arte di Creare, dates from 2012 and is based in Firenze. The stall travels between markets and fairs, in Tuscany and beyond.
