Modeled, painted and glazed by hand by Kerstin Rauch, in Reggello.
The piece
Ceramic hanging pot, shaped like a cat.
It can hold plants or aromatic herbs: it adds character to the room and brings cheer to a green corner, inside or outside the house.
How it's made
A one-person workshop, where every piece goes through all the stages without ever changing hands.
- Throws on the wheelThe form comes from the wheel she learned in Montelupo: from there on the piece is hers, from raw clay to firing.
- Decorates like a painterMaiolica was her first language and it shows: full colours, living surfaces, the palette borrowed from the hills outside the window.
- Knots the macraméThe hanging vases travel with the weave that holds them, and she makes the macramé herself, knot by knot, to the size of the piece.
- Gives the chimes a voiceThe wind chimes are a family affair: the sounding inserts come from her husband's hands. Every chime comes out with a voice of its own.
- Materials
- Hand-shaped, hand-painted, and hand-glazed ceramic
How to look after it
A few things, but they have to be respected: it is fired glaze, not plastic.
- Flowerpot

Kerstin Rauch
Kerstin Rauch works clay in a small studio on the hills of Reggello, in the province of Firenze, where the window looks out over the olive groves. The colors and textures of that landscape are the matrix of what comes out of the kiln: she says so herself, and you can see it.
She has always liked everything that hangs — plants, bells, suspended objects — and half the production came from there: the wind chimes, the plant hangers, the jellyfish that hold the tillandsias, the bird feeder. The other half sits flat: hand-painted tiles, plates, spoons, incense holders, cat-shaped salt cellars.
In her workshop, she says, “everything turns: the wheel, the ideas, and often me as well”.
