Above, it is held by a silver cap modeled with craters and opened into irregular voids: no two holes are alike, and the arms descend onto the pearl's shoulders without protruding sideways. The silver is oxidized in the recesses and re-polished only on the raised parts, as in all the \"Marte\" pieces: the design emerges through contrast. On the front of the cap, held by four polished prongs, is an oval blue sapphire.
